Trent Athletes of the Week |

Trent University is proud to announce that Erkan Huseyin is the RILEY'S-JUNCTION Male Athlete of the Week for the week of September 20. Erkan is a forward for the Trent Soccer team. Erkan scored his first goal of the season in a 5-2 loss to the University of Windsor. Erkan hails from Waterloo, Ontario and is a 4th year Geography student. Trent University is proud to announce that Andrea Defrancesco is the RILEY'S JUNCTION Female Athlete of the Week for the week of September 20. Andrea plays the Lock position for the Trent Rugby team. Andrea scored the winning try against Wilfrid Laurier as Trent won the game by a score of 17-10. Andrea hails from Bolton, Ontario and is a 2nd year Concurrent Education student. Trent Rowers Earn 47 Gold MedalsThe Trent University Rowing team competed at the Head of the Rideau Regatta in Ottawa, Sunday, September 25. Peter Van Rooijen won the men's heavyweight single. Peter added another gold in the men's heavyweight four. Freshman Katie Raynor captured golds in both the lightweight double, and then coxed the women's novice 8 to victory. The Trent novice crews had a successful weekend as the Novice Women's eight and the Novice Men's eights won their event. Second place in both novice races was the Trent novice B boats. Trent rowers returned home with 47 gold medals. Trent will compete in this weekend's Head of the Trent Rowing Regatta, Saturday, October 2 at Trent University. Women's RugbyThe Trent University Women's Rugby team lost to the McMaster Marauders by a score of 17-10 in OUA action, Sunday, September 25th in Hamilton. Trent was playing without standout freshman Sarah Sabotka and Charlotte Kloosterman, both of whom are recovering from injury. Sarah Whitlaw scored both tries for Trent. "The pack played a great game and totally dominated McMaster in the second half. We're a solid, young team but we're still learning how to do the little things that winning teams do to win games," said Assistant Coach Craig Harris. "It's unfortunate that we're 1?]2 because we should be 2?]1, the rest of the year should be exciting." Trent will host the first place Brock Badgers, Saturday, October 2nd, at 1pm. Women's SoccerThe Trent University Women's Soccer team lost in OUA action to the Windsor Lancers by a score of 4-2 in Windsor, Saturday, September 24th. Scoring for the Excalibur was freshman Brandy Thomp, and Meg Watters. In Sunday's action, Trent lost to the Western Mustangs by a score of 8-0. Western is ranked 6th amongst Canadian Universities. Trent hosts Waterloo Sunday, October 3rd at 3pm. Men's SoccerThe Trent University Men's Soccer team lost in OUA action to the Windsor Lancers by a score of 5-2 in Windsor, Saturday, September 24th. Scoring for the Excalibur was Alex Spiridis and Erkan Husayin. Trent held a 2-1 lead until the 75th minute, when Jonathan Mondino received a red card that forced Trent to play with 10 players for the duration of the game. In Sunday's action, Trent lost to the Western Mustangs by a score of 9-0. Western is ranked 9th amongst Canadian Universities. Trent hosts Waterloo, Sunday October 3rd at 1pm. Men's RugbyThe Trent University Men's Rugby team lost to the Queen's Golden Gaels by a score of 43-0 in OUA action, Sunday, September 25th in Kingston.
