Trent Men's Soccer Opens Season |

The Trent University Men's Soccer team opened the OUA season in Kingston this past weekend. Under the guidance of new Head Coach Claude Bolton, Trent lost the opener by a score of 2-1 versus the Royal Military College. Trent fell behind early as RMC's Karl Russell opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Trent then tied the match 1-1 in the 26th minute as Nick Rowe found the back of the net. RMC's Sherif Masood scored the winner in the 44th minute. "I felt we played real well," added Coach Bolton. "We came away from this weekend with a lot of positives to build upon." In Sunday's action Trent lost to Queens by a score of 3-0. Trent's (0-2) next game is Saturday, September 18th at 1pm. Trent Rugby Opens SeasonThe Trent University Men's Rugby team opened the OUA season with a 10-0 loss to the University of Toronto, Saturday, September 18th. Toronto opened the scoring with a try very late in the first half. "We played a great defensive game, we just didn't capitalize on the offensive end," said Head Coach Darrell Devine. Toronto scored their 2nd try in the closing minutes of the game. Trent lost OUA All-Star and Peterborough native, John Stephenson to injury early in the game. "It was a tough loss for us, John is one of our better players, and we had to change some positions to adapt." Trent's next game is Sunday, September 19th at Carleton. Trent Freshmen lead the wayThe Trent University Cross Country team traveled to Guelph on Saturday, September 11th to participate in the Gryphon Open. Leading the way for the women's team was freshman Chantal Gagne who finished in 25th place with a time of 17:24.3 on the 4km course. Also competing for Trent were Jennifer Mair (32nd), and Robyn Hoogendam (33rd). Leading the men's team was freshman Mike Minor who finished in 24th place with a time of 27:33.8 over the 7.5km course. Finishing in 36th place was Justin Abbiss with a time of 30:00.4. "We had some very encouraging results from this past weekend," said Coach Steve Hoggett. Trent's next competition is Saturday, September 18th in Waterloo. Trent Women's Soccer Earn First VictoryThe Trent University Women's Soccer team earned their first victory of the OUA season with a 1-0 win over the Royal Military College, in Kingston, this weekend. Posting the shutout for the Excalibur was Sarah Asbreuk, while Elspeth Arkell scored the winner in the 72nd minute. "We started out very strong, with a lot of early chances. They came out strong in the second half, but we regrouped and held on," added Head Coach Bruce Rowe. In Sunday's game Trent lost to Queens by a score of 7-0. Queens was the OUA champions in 2001, 2002. Trent (1-1) will host Carleton (1-0) Saturday September 18th at 3pm. Posted September 14, 2004
