Dr. Marina Morgenshtern, professor of Social Work
Having lived, studied and worked in various countries, Dr. Morgenshtern is familiar with the challenges faced by many skilled immigrants upon entering the workforce. Her areas of teaching and research interest are focused on social constructivist, feminist intersectional, anti-oppressive, and antiracist approaches to social work with immigrant and ethnic minority individuals, families, and groups, and the inclusion of marginalized voices into social work theory, research, and practice.
Professor Morgenshtern is currently working with the Regional Municipality of Durham and Trent’s Professor Dalon Taylor on a community-based project titled Empowerment and Exclusion in Immigrant Experiences of Securing Professional Employment in the Region of Durham. Together they are taking a closer look at immigrant experiences in securing professional employment in the Durham region to identify possible employment service gaps, improve social services and increase public awareness of immigrant experiences.
