Loan periods vary by material type:

  • General Collection: 120 days
  • Short Term Loan: 4 days
  • Course Reserves: 4 hours
  • Current Periodicals: 14 days
  • Curriculum Collection: 14 days
  • Loans from other libraries: varied
  • Government Publications: 14 days
  • Maps: 14 days
  • Media: 28 days
  • New Arrivals Collection: 14 days

All currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate student have borrowing privileges upon presentation of a valid TrentU card, obtained through the Campus Card office. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. Lost or stolen TrentU Cards should be reported to the Campus Security office immediately.  

 

Faculty and staff who are currently employed at Trent University have borrowing privileges upon presentation of a valid TrentU card, obtained through the Campus Card office. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. Lost or stolen TrentU Cards are to be reported to Campus Security.   

Borrowing privileges for faculty and staff members are extended upon retirement at no charge. Retirees are required to present a TrentU card or a Library Borrowing card to borrow material. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable. A library replacement card may be obtained at the Library Service Desk. Lost or stolen cards are to be reported immediately as follows; TrentU to Campus Security and Library Borrowing cards to the Library Service Desk.   

Library privileges for visiting scholars may be arranged by the host department by contacting library@trentu.ca

For access to online resources, host departments may submit a Non-Staff Academic/Research account request using IT's Account Request service in MyTrent.

Trent University Alumni Association members are entitled to borrowing privileges at no charge. Presentation of a TrentU card with an Alumni authentication sticker attached, or a Library Borrowing card is required to obtain borrowing privileges. Library privileges are extended to the registered owner and are not transferable.  A Replacement Library Card may be obtained at the Library Service Desk.  Lost or stolen cards are to be reported immediately to Campus Security and the Library Service Desk.

Access to the library's licensed online resources is restricted to current students, faculty and staff, based on licensing agreements with vendors.  Many online resources may be accessed on campus at the Bata and Durham Library locations using the Community Access Computer workstations.
