Who should use Trent Dataverse Collection?

Dataverse is a general purpose repository, suitable for all disciplines, and accepts a wide range of data types and formats.

Borealis cannot accept sensitive or confidential data. Content must not contain information that could directly or indirectly identify a subject (with some exceptions) and must be de-identified.  Other sensitive data not suitable for deposit may include sensitive ecological data or data about sacred of protected cultural practices or sites. For further information see Terms of Use.

What types of data can be deposited?

Dataverse accepts a wide range of data types and formats. Researchers are advised to use non-proprietary open formats. Acceptable file formats include (but are not limited to):

documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, PPTX)

images (JPG, PNG, TIFF)

videos (MOV, MP4)

 audio (MP3, WAV)

tabular files (XLSX, SAV, DTA, R, CSV, TSV, TAB)

compressed files (ZIP)

And many more.

File size limits:

Single file limitations:

When uploading a singe file, that file cannot be larger than 3 GB

Tabular file limitations:

When uploading a tabular file (e.g., XLSX, SAV, CSV, etc.), it’s recommended that the file not be larger than 500MB. When uploading a tabular file, the Dataverse software ingests and converts that file to one that can be used by any tabular software. It can only complete this conversion for files smaller than 500MB.
