Trent’s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is a four-year, full-time undergraduate degree program and fully accredited by the Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE). It is offered in-person, on both our Durham and Peterborough campuses.
Our BSW program leads to an Honours degree in Social Work and consists of 20.0 credits with at least 11.0 credits of professional Social Work education including over 700 hours of field placement. The first two years provide a general foundation in various disciplines that inform social work practice and provide students the opportunity to explore a range of contemporary themes connected to social work from across disciplines. All students must apply to be admitted into third year - the first of the Professional Years. During the Professional Years, students will acquire the knowledge, ability, and skills to be become an effective generalist social work practitioner.
This program prepares students to be generalist social work practitioners; students will acquire a comprehensive set of knowledge, values, and skills that are transferable across a range of fields of practice and a range of social work roles. Trent graduates are eligible to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers upon successful completion of the program.
