Trent Gets Ready to Shine at Shinerama |
||
The start of a new academic year is upon us once again, and with it comes Trent’s Introductory Seminar Week (ISW) for new students and the famous and fun Shinerama fundraiser for cystic fibrosis (CF). On Saturday, September 9, Trent students will be all around Peterborough shining shoes, playing musical instruments, and washing cars – all in an effort to raise money for CF. The day begins with a hearty breakfast and pep rally, followed by a fun-filled day of shining, washing, and cheering! Shinerama is Canada's largest post-secondary school fundraiser involving students at approximately 60 university and college campuses. For over 40 years, students from coast-to-coast have joined together to raise more than $16 million to help fight CF. Leading up to the day-long event on September 9, Shinerama organizers at Trent will be hard at work to raise awareness of the event and to get the University started towards achieving its 2006 fundraising goal of $18,000. The first event takes place on Thursday, August 24 at Chapter’s and Jake’s Neighbourhood Grill on Lansdowne Street. Come to Chapter’s between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and ten per cent of the proceeds from regularly priced in-store items will be donated directly back to Shinerama. After shopping, dine at near-by Jake’s and ten per cent of your purchase there will also be donated to Shinerama. It is a winning combination!! In addition, other Shinerama events including a cheering competition, the selling of Shinerama bracelets, and the annual Bling Bling competition, will take place during ISW week at Trent.
