Are you passionate about or interested in learning about promoting outdoor education in traditional school settings?
This alternative settings placement will provide teacher candidates with the skills and experience they need to lead similar projects at their future schools. They will learn how to develop and work within budgets, consult with different stakeholders, and involve students in this process as these projects present important learning opportunities for them as well.
This alternative settings placement will provide teacher candidates with the skills and experience they need to lead initiatives related to outdoor and environmental education at their future schools, with a special focus on the establishment of outdoor learning spaces. They will learn how to develop and work within budgets, consult with different stakeholders, and involve students in this process as these projects present important learning opportunities for them as well.
Participating teacher candidates will meet regularly throughout the winter term to engage in planning and stakeholder consultation around the development of an outdoor learning space in the Otonabee College Quad. In the 2025-2026 school year, we will come together to put our plans into action, building the space. Throughout this placement, we will explore examples of outdoor learning spaces at different schools and consider the unique goals for the space we will design together. We will consider both the human and the more than human stakeholders involved in this project, to ensure that is supports all levels of our community.
