Opportunities for Teacher Candidates and Educators
This program provides educators with the knowledge, motivation, and skills to facilitate the transmission of an environmental consciousness to their future and current students. Additionally, this opportunity assists educators in establishing inclusive learning spaces that meet the cultural needs of Indigenous students and the cross-cultural learning needs of non-Indigenous students. These objectives assist educators in implementing The First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework, and the Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow: Environmental Education in Ontario Schools Policy Framework.
Facilitated by Dr. Nicole Bell, an Associate Professor with the School of Education, and is Anishinaabe, from the Bear Clan from Kitigan Zibi First Nation, and is the founder of an Anishinaabe culture-based school for Indigenous children and youth. Collaboratively with Nicole, Teacher Candidates and Educators experience land-based activities in Burleigh Falls and Lovesick Lake to personally develop a connection to the environment and an awareness of the Anishinaabe culture.
