Our Symbol
![A black and white version of The Catharine Parr Traill College crest. In the centre is the Trent University logo: a sword overlayed by several wavy lines, representing Samuel de Champlain's sword entering the Otonabee River. An open book has been added to the top of this logo. Above the logo is a semi-circular banner that says Catharine Parr Traill College. Another decorative banner is placed below the logo. On the left side of this banner is the alpha symbol, and on the right is the Omega symbol. Below is the College's and University's motto: nunc cognosco ex parte.](/colleges/sites/trentu.ca.colleges/files/styles/large/public/inline-images/Trail%20College%20Logo.png?itok=LsO0ZDov)
The Traill College coat of arms has been used for over 40 years. It incorporates the Trent logo into a shield featuring an open book. Surrounding the shield is a ribbon with the College name prefixed with the symbol for alpha and ending with the symbol for omega (the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet).
As one of the two founding Colleges at Trent, Traill College shares the university’s motto of nunc cognosco ex parte, or “now I know in part.”
Rich in symbolism, the coat of arms underscores the importance of lifelong learning as well as humility in the pursuit of self-betterment through education.
