Offer Youth Unlimited Opportunities to Get Active in Trent’s Unparalleled Natural Environment ($110,000)

At Trent the opportunities for youth to be active and engaged with the natural environment are virtually limitless. Located on the banks of the Otonabee River with approximately 1,400 acres of pristine natural surroundings and 20 kilometres of nature trails at our doorstep, the University has a unique advantage over other community recreation centres and facilities.

To take advantage of Trent’s finest features we are creating the following investment opportunities:

Trent’s Nature Advantage Fund ($40,000)

By supporting Trent’s new Nature Advantage Fund, you can help ensure that all members of our athletics and recreation facilities, especially youth, have year-round access to unique and exciting outdoor learning and recreation opportunities.

This fund will be used to: support equipment purchases, such as canoes, kayaks, paddles, lifejackets and outdoor gear; provide resources for developing and administering outdoor programs; ensure that appropriate staffing is in place for supervising outdoor activities; and create “hubs” for various activities, such as an area dedicated to canoeing.

Elementary School Spring Program ($70,000)

To help combat a growing trend of child obesity and health issues associated with inactivity, Trent’s Elementary School Spring Program aims to promote healthy lifestyles to children through: mentorship opportunities with varsity athletes, providing outdoor and recreational opportunities, teaching healthy eating habits, and supporting teachers with resource materials related to healthy living.

The spring school mini-camp is offered to elementary school children in grades three through six, and features a full day of indoor and outdoor activities, utilizing all of the features that make Trent’s facilities so unique. Teachers also have the opportunity to pick and choose modules that complement their current school activities and the interests of their students. It is estimated that up to 4,000 elementary school students will have the opportunity to take part in this dynamic and interactive initiative on an annual basis.

By investing in Outdoor Education & Leadership opportunities at Trent, you can help promote and encourage active lifestyles for youth that can positively impact their health for a lifetime.
