New Building Highlights

The renewed and expanded facilities will be designed in harmony with the surrounding natural environment. Together with award-winning campus architecture, they will complement Trent’s unparalleled natural surroundings. Highlights and new features include:

  • New 12,000 sq. ft. cardio loft and weight room, featuring state-of-the-art equipment and breathtaking views of the Otonabee River

  • State-of-the-art 28 ft high indoor climbing facility available for use by everyone from the skilled adult climber to children, and everyone in between

  • Unique indoor rowing/paddling tank, the only combination training tank of its kind in the province – to attract the ever-growing Dragon Boat market of adults who enjoy paddling and competing as both a social and fitness activity, varsity athletes, and professional rowers training to become the best in the country and the world

  • International competitive squash court with a glass wall for viewing and spectator seating designed with international standards in mind

  • Warm therapy pool, equipped with state-of-the-art features including jets that provide significant thrust to jog or swim against the water flow, a chair lift into the tank, and an underwater treadmill

  • Expanded therapy clinic offering on-site physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and sports health services to serve the rehabilitation and sports injury needs of all community members, varsity players, and elite athletes, and giving Trent a competitive edge as a state-of-the-art venue for national and international sporting events

  • Complete makeover of the Trent pool, including aesthetic upgrades, bleacher seating and improvements to air quality and warmer air temperature control systems

  • Updated and redesigned change rooms and showers, including the creation of new team change rooms to enable sport teams to meet, strategize, and plan before and after the big game

  • Improved accessibility, offering direct access to the pool deck through new disabled change room, accessible car drop-off area, and elevator

  • Bistro café by the river, offering members snacks and refreshments 

Trent’s Most Sustainable Building

The renewed athletics facility will strive to become one of the most sustainable buildings at Trent and in the community by achieving a silver rating through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™. A LEED-designated building is environmentally sound and energy efficient and leaves as small an environmental footprint as possible.
