4.1. ELIGIBLE STUDENTS

4.1.4 PROTECTED PERSONS
A person, and his/her dependents, who:
a) has been determined to be a protected person, including a Convention refugee or a person in need of protection, within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) or the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. A protected person document issued under section 31(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act or a “notice of decision” issued by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada or by the IRB must be presented.
b) is a refugee claimant who applied to the federal government for Convention refugee status prior to January 1, 1989, and can provide documentation from Citizenship and Immigration Canada to that effect.

1.1.7 DEPENDENTS
Dependents are defined as (refer to section 1.1.8 for definition of ‘dependent child’):
a) a spouse;
b) ** a common-law partner
c) a dependent child or the dependent child of a spouse or common-law partner;
d) a dependent child of the dependent child referred to above.

1.1.8 DEPENDENT CHILD
A dependent child is a child who is a biological child who has not been adopted by a person other than the spouse or common-law partner, or an adopted child;and who is in one of the following situations of dependency:
a) under age 22 and not a spouse or common-law partner;
b) enrolled continuously at a college, university or other educational institution and dependent substantially on the financial support of the parent since before age 22 or since becoming a spouse

** An affidavit signed by both spouses, confirming that they are living together in a conjugal relationship for not less than three years, or that they are living together in a conjugal relationship and are raising any children of whom they both are the natural or adoptive parent, is required to verify their common-law status.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
If you fit into one of the above categories, the student must submit supporting documentation through the "Fee Status Change Request Form" before the deadline. No exceptions to deadlines will be accepted.

A student may be required to prove their status at any time during their registration at the University. Failure to comply will result in assessment of International fees.

You must fit at least one of the definitions in the Categories Eligible for Domestic Fees section above.

You should review the deadlines in the Changing Your Fee Status to the Domestic Tuition Rate section above. The date you submit the supporting documentation for tuition fee status re-assessment determines the academic session or term when the re-assessed tuition fee status will take effect.

You will apply online using the Fee Status Change Request Form for International Students. A myTrent login is required to access this application form which is found in the FINANCES section under the International heading.

You will need to provide supporting documentation for your request. The online application form will tell you what documents are acceptable for your category, and how to upload the documents.
