Sample and Chemical Labelling Requirements (for Compliance with WHMIS Regulations)
RE: Workplace labels and WHMIS
All labs have a responsibility to ensure chemicals and reagents are properly labelled in their workplace. To assist you with understanding and sharing this information with lab personnel, we have created a 2 page document outlining your responsibilities under Section 8 Ontario Regulation 860 (WHMIS). The document contains information about chemicals, lab made reagents and samples generated in your lab.
Please review and share with all of your lab personnel (current and ongoing). This information is relevant as we find research and teaching reagents and samples in labs or shared spaces that are improperly, poorly or not labelled. This is a potential risk to everyone if there are spills, inadvertent contact, chemical incompatibilities or unknown hazards etc.
