What buildings are considered Science Facilities?
The Science Facilities are comprised of the Chemical Sciences Building, the Environmental Sciences Center (or Building), the Science Complex, the DNA Building and the Life and Health Sciences Center.

How do I find out about safety training and schedules of courses?
Much of the Training is online now but there are training courses offered by the Environmental Health and Safety Office. Training course offered through the Science Facilities are advertised via Email to all supervisors and grad students. Individual training for things like Liquid Nitrogen can be arranged with Angela Sikma.
How do I book the use of Environmental Chambers?
Environmental Chambers in ESB are booked through the Science Facilities. Contact Cwilliams@trentu.ca. The Microenvironmental Chambers in ESB A 125, 126 and 127 can be booked through the Watershed Science Institute contact Craigmurray@trentu.ca. The Environmental Chambers in Life and Health Sciences Center Block D should be booked through the Biology Department.
The Animal Care Facility has environmental chambers for use with Animals. Contact JAllen@trentu.ca.
What do I do if the fumehood is in alarm or not working?
If a Fumehood monitor goes into alarm or you notice that the fumehood doesn't seem to be working properly you should stop all work in the fumehood (provided it is safe to do so). Cap or cover as best as possible all open sources of volatile chemicals. Close the fumehood sash. Contact Physical resources at ext. 1366 ( by email at Fixit@trentu.ca) and inform them of theroom number and that the fumehood is in alarm and not working properly. Post the fumehood "Do Not Use, Fumehood Not Working". Inform your co-workers and supervisor. Contact Science Facilities (either Chris Williams or Angela Sikma).
What do I do if I believe that mail or shipped packages are missing?
Step 1. Contact the shipper to determine if it was signed for on delivery or where it was delivered to on campus.
Step 2. Contact your colleagues to see if someone else in your lab group picked it up.
Step 3. After completing Steps 1 and 2, contact Angela Sikma for further assistance.
How do I get access to Liquid Nitrogen?
To access the liquid nitrogen filling station you first need to be trained. Contact Angela Sikma to arrange for this.
What do I do if my office/lab is too hot or too cold?
If you find your office is too hot or too cold contact the Physical Resources Department at fixit@trentu.ca. Please be sure to supply the building and room number. Please do not attempt to adjust the thermostat.
How do I dispose of a full sharps container?
If your sharps container is full (it should be a yellow container with a plastic cap), cap the container, label it "Full" and place it next to the regular waste can on the floor. Do not put it in the waste container! Caretaking will pick it up. Contact Science Facilities to pick up a new one.
