Jayme Stabler

Jayme StablerWarsaw, Ontario
M.Sc. in Materials Science

Jayme Stabler is an historic graduate at Trent – the first person to graduate from the M.Sc. in Materials Science graduate program, offered jointly by Trent University and UOIT.

Working alongside Dr. Andrew Vreugdenhil in the Inorganic Materials Research Lab at Trent, Jayme conducted her research with sol-gel material, using it as a corrosion protective coating on aluminium and steel alloys.

“I encapsulated different environmentally-friendly corrosion inhibitors and monitored any changes,” she explains. “Some of the coating was removed from the samples to see if the inhibitors would prevent corrosion from occurring, even if the coating had been compromised.”

In describing her decision to come to Trent for her postgraduate work, Jayme says, ““I chose Trent for many reasons. I wanted to stay close to home, I enjoyed the small, beautiful campus, and I wanted to be part of a new, innovative program.”

Benefiting from the partnership between Trent and UOIT, Jayme was thrilled to attend lectures via video conference. Equipped in a state-of-the-art classroom with cameras and microphones, Jayme was able to easily connect with her professors and fellow students in Oshawa.

When it comes to her hands-on research experiences at Trent, Jayme says, “I really enjoyed all of the opportunities I had to work with different companies involving my research. I felt the coating I worked with had a lot of potential and that one day it, or a variety of it, would be used in industry.”
