History and Indigenous Studies, Trent University in Oshawa
At 80 years of age, Carl Wienecke is one of Trent’s oldest graduates. He started taking courses at the University when he retired in 1993.
Why did you choose Trent?
The Trent University in Oshawa campus was close to where I was living. I also chose it for the specific courses offered.
How would you describe yourself? How would others describe you? What are your passions in life?
At my age (80), my passion is to get out of bed each day, play a round of golf, and probably try oil painting.
What has your time at Trent meant to you? What are some of your favourite memories? What will you take with you from Trent?
I’ve enjoyed the History and Native Studies and their connection to each other. My favourite memory was when I turned 80 and the class sang happy birthday to me, and I got a card signed by all.
What are your future plans and aspirations? What do you hope to accomplish?
I look forward to traveling, first to Israel to see my son and grandsons, then to Iceland and South America. By then I may paint a picture.
