Thanh Pham

Thanh PhamHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Computer Science/Studies
Thanh Pham is an international student from Vietnam who made the most out of his time at Trent University.

Why did you choose Trent?

I like Trent because it’s a small university and I can be able to get to know my professors easily. If I have difficulty about assignments, there always are my professors to guide me through.

How would you describe yourself? How would others describe you? What are your passions in life?

Personally, I describe myself as an ambitious person. I always try hard to finish my objectives in life. If I need to do something, I usually put a lot of efforts to get it done. There was one time my friend Kari told me ‘I feel you are moving too fast and I can’t be able to catch you…’ and I replied ‘I just do what I need to do…’ My passions in life are to be able to experience new things, to be able to compete and to be able to accomplish my goals.

Have you been involved in any clubs, groups, and/or sports at Trent? If so, which ones?

I was a captain of two soccer teams (one named The Decepticons with 18 members) in the recreational soccer tournament and TISA Olympic last semester. I participated in Jujitsu, Taekwondo, Latin dance club last year and was an Otonabee ISW leader in the first semester. I played soccer, volleyball, ping pong, squash, swimming, etc. Also, I work out and do cardio on my regular basis.

What has your time at Trent meant to you? What are some of your favourite memories? What will you take with you from Trent?

My time at Trent is valuable and precious. I treasure every moment I come to Trent and to be able to experience a new point of view every day. I came from Vietnam where culture is very different with Canada and North America in general. To be able to see the diversity of the world and the ways people react differently to the same situation makes me realize possibilities of the world

What are your future plans and aspirations? What do you hope to accomplish?

My future plan is to work in industry. I want to become a database administrator or a project manager someday. I hope there will be a lot of opportunities opened for me in next 5 or 10 years so that I can explore them. I want to make difference by creating difference for myself and try to convince others that my difference can be their other option.
