“Building art is a synthesis of life in materialized form. We should try to bring in under the same hat not a splintered way of thinking, but all in harmony together.”
– Alvar Aalto on architectural philosophy
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) was a Finnish furniture designer and architect, who was known for his humanistic approach to architecture. He created buildings and furniture that stimulated conversation and uniquely fit the area they were originally placed. He is Finland’s most celebrated designer and has a museum dedicated to his work in Jyväskylä, Finland; and his personally-designed house in Helsinki, Finland has been preserved for the public to view.
