GEOG-ERSC 2090H and GEOG-ERSC 3010H
Accessing GIS Software
Students have two basic options for accessing and working with the GIS software while enrolled in a web or remote course. Listed in preferred order:
1. Receive an email in your Trent University account from MaDGIC with information on how to download, install and set up the GIS software
This option is strongly recommended, because it gives students the best experience with the software. Information on this option can be found below;
2. Access the software via Trent IT’s Virtual Computing Comments (remote access)
This option is available for students whose computer hardware does not meet requirements of the GIS software and they are unable to purchase new. It involves running a Trent-imaged computer that is located at Trent in a window on your remote computer. Its availability is limited - it won’t support a great many users at a time, hence our recommendation for option 1. For more information on this option visit Trent IT’s web page. If you use this option, for best experience it is strongly recommended you install the Windows or Mac client, rather than run it within your web browser
This next section reviews option 1, including ArcGIS software requirements, and how to run it on a Mac computer
