Like engineering, accounting, and architecture, the practice of professional geoscience is regulated by provinces and territories in Canada. According to the Professional Geoscientists Act in Ontario (2000), it is a legal requirement to be registered as a Professional Geoscientist (PGeo) to publicly practice geoscience in Ontario under any of the following job titles: Geoscientist, Geologist, Geomorphologist, Geophysicist, Geochemist, Earth Scientist, Hydrogeologist, Environmental Geologist, Environmental Geoscientist.
Registration with APGO requires a 4-year BSc in geoscience, which includes 27 ‘Education Units’ (EUs; ½ credits) or specific courses that are part of the degree. The curriculum for Trent’s Environmental Geoscience BSc degree has been designed to include these 27 required half-credit courses, as well as additional courses that are needed to satisfy prerequisites.
