In the course, students learn how to find and apply for jobs in the Communications field and then gain professional experience by working with a partner organization over the fall and winter terms. The details of each student's placement are determined through consultation with the placement supervisor, the instructor, and the student. Prerequisite: A minimum 70% cumulative average and 10.0 university credits. Open only to students in the Communications program or with permission of the instructor.
The Herman Kassinger Foundation for Experiential Learning Student Award
In support of students pursuing experiential learning The Herman Kassinger Foundation for Experiential Learning Student Award was created. This award provides $250 to successful applicants to help them overcome financial barriers including:

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for this award, you must:
- Be a current undergraduate student at Trent Durham actively pursuing or completing an experiential learning program or course for academic credit.
- Demonstrate a genuine financial need for accessing or participating in an experiential learning placement or project course.
- If successful, the student must submit a letter of thanks to the Herman Kassinger Foundation.

The Oshawa Generals Hockey Club is seeking a highly motivated student to join our team. This eight-month placement program will expose the successful candidate to first-hand professional experience working with one of the CHL’s most historic franchises.

Trent University: Risk Management & Campus Safety Communications Student
Trent University encourages intelligent risk taking when the risk is properly managed. It is the mandate of the Risk Management Department to provide risk management tools, advice and support so that every member of the Trent community who is responsible for a decision, activity or course of action can effectively manage the associated risks.
Duties
We require a review and overhaul of our websites, social media and resources materials. It will be an opportunity to build a new communications program for Trent University Risk Management and Campus Safety, including emergency preparedness and response, TUEFRT, Walkhome, Parking and general personal safety programs. We have two locations, our main department office is located on Symons Campus in Peterborough and our second office is located on our Durham GTA Campus. We can support a student or student(s) at either location. We use and maintain two mobile Campus Safety related applications for communications, Trent U Safety App (AppArmor Campus Safety App) and Alertus, our mass emergency communication platform. We also have the Trent U EOC Command mobile application for the designate university emergency operations staff. These applications require review and updating, plus a new advertisement and education campaign. We want to launch a new Emergency Preparedness and Response campaign for students and employees. The Communications Support student will help the Peterborough 360 Degree Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic improve its internal and external communications by using your research, analytical and interviewing skills to conduct a comprehensive review of all communications activities at the clinic. This comprehensive review of the organization's internal and external communications will determine the current effectiveness and consistency of communications methods, materials and processes, such as what's working or what isn't working and how to improve communications going forward. This review would involve a variety of tasks including in-person interviews, an online review of existing communications materials and online surveys. In-person work would be minimal and some research could be done virtually. Based on the results of the research and review, the student would then make recommendations about specific strategies to improve communications with various audiences. The student will investigate the following questions: How effective are the organization's current communications strategies? What recommendations can be made to improve communications so that the organization is meeting its overall goals set out in its Strategic Plan?
