Career Conscious
What can I do with a BAS degree, and how do I design mine in a way that balances my interests and unique career objectives?
The BAS degree is truly interdisciplinary and provides students with the unique opportunity to tailor their degree to their specific interests within the Arts/Sciences, while simultaneously opening creative avenues for potential career paths. For example, students interested in philosophy could combine their studies with biology and work in a field such as biomedical ethics, or with economics and work with public policy; students interested in sociology could pair their minor with biology and would be well-equipped to understand the social, behavioural and biological determinants of health, wellness and disease which could lead to an exciting career in health sciences.
Graduates will be prepared for employment or further study in exciting fields such as:
- medicine
- law and law enforcement
- journalism
- public policy
- teaching/education
- communications
- research
- social work
For those that wish to pursue further education, the BAS degree provides an excellent foundation for not only professional degrees (such as medicine, education, law) but also interdisciplinary graduate programs.

Isaac Prazmowski - 2017 (currently pursuing Master's of Social Work)
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the BAS program at Trent. Going into university, I didn't know how I wanted to spend the rest of my life and the BAS program allowed me to explore a wide variety of interests to see what fit. I have also found this core value of the BAS program to be true in my experiences after university. No one's life exists purely in the Arts or purely in the Sciences. In experiencing and studying in both the arts and the sciences, I was able to build both sets of skills to prepare me for the future. I now approach problems from numerous perspectives and with different types of thinking, and I believe this has served me well in my career since."
