Concussion Awareness - eLearning
Making Head Way Concussion eLearning Series
Levels of Play
Teams and players are encouraged to choose the level of competition which best suits their interest and skill: Recreational or Competitive.
-
Recreational Leagues
The ultimate goal of these leagues is fun through healthy, active participation. Recreation leagues are for those players with the desire to play but with less sport specific experience/skill. Beginners are always welcome. -
Competitive Leagues
For the more experienced or skilled athletes. Competitive play athletes should play here. Fair Play still rules these leagues.
Please note: If it is deemed a player or team has mistakenly entered the wrong division they will be removed from the program if needed. Moving to a different level will be dependent upon how full the league schedule, or teams are.
League Formats
- CO-ED Leagues
For most leagues there is a minimum of 2 male identifying / 2 female identifying per team.
- OPEN Leagues
For most leagues there is no minimum gender requirements.
How Often Can I Play?
You may play for only one team in one level per sport (i.e. if you are on a competitive volleyball team, you are not eligible to play on a recreational volleyball team at the same time).
Pick-Up Sports
We provide the facility and equipment, you bring the players! Join us for a variety of sports including basketball, indoor soccer, and badminton, or drop by to play a game of squash. Bring your student card to sign out equipment from the Front Desk.
You can sign up for a squash court at the AC Reception Desk. Give us a call at 705-748-1257.
Team Sign Up
- Designate a Captain and an Assistant Captain. All captains or designates must attend the Captain’s meeting for the sport they are playing.
- Choose a team name. Complete the team roster, including names, student numbers, signatures, and phone numbers.
- Register your team online today!
Notes: Team names (offensive names will not be accepted) and uniforms are subject to approval by the Campus Rec Coordinator. Be sure to register early, as spaces are limited. Team registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Individuals (Free Agents)
Individuals without a team are encouraged to find teams through their college Athletic Reps. If you cannot find a team on your own, sign up on the free agent list which is located at the AC Reception Desk.
Please note that the Free Agent list does not guarantee a place on a team. It is up to the discretion of team captains to pick up additional players. While we do our best to find you a team, there is no guarantee that all free agents will be picked up.
Free Agent Teams
Whenever possible, Free Agents will be grouped into teams by Campus Rec staff. Players will have the option when signing up to pay the Free Agent fee for a place on this team (see current Campus Rec Program Guide for fees). Free Agent teams are subject to cancellation if minimum participant numbers are not met. A full refund will be provided to any Free Agent who has paid for a cancelled team. Refunds are not provided once a league has started.
Requests to be placed on a team with other specific Free Agents may be accommodated if an email is received in advance and we are able to do so. The Campus Recreation team will try to accommodate such requests, though this may not always be possible. No requests will be granted where an email has not been received in advance as teams cannot be rebalanced once the league has started.
Captain’s Responsibilities
- Enter the team and collect the receipt for your sport fee and performance bond.
- Attend the Captain’s meeting (or send a team representative).
- Ensure the eligibility of the team players.
- Inform the team of the eligibility, conduct and sport rules and ensure that team members abide by the rules and the Fair Play Policy.
- Read the Captain’s Info Sheet you will receive at the Captain’s meeting.
- Make sure that your team’s first priority is to have fun through healthy competition.
- Captains have the authority to remove a player from their team who refuses to follow rules or Fair Play Policy.
Team Fees and Bonds
- Sport fees and performance bonds are payable at the time of registration. Most performance bonds are $10 per Free Agent or $50 per team (Hockey $50 per Free Agent and $150 per team).
- Sport fees are collected to assist in renting, purchasing and maintaining equipment and facilities for Campus Recreation Programs.
- Performance Bonds are returned if the following conditions are met: (1) no defaults (2) no suspensions (3) no harassment of officials or other players (4) no ineligible players (5) no contravention to the fair play policy (6) attendance at the captains’ meeting
- Eligible bonds will be returned at the conclusion of league play.
- Performance bonds are meant to encourage participation and fair play. Our goal is to return 100% of the bonds.
- If a team defaults a game, 50% of the bond will be forfeited. A second default will result in 100% of the bond being forfeited and the team may be removed from the league.
- Free Agents are expected to attend scheduled games. If a Free Agent misses more than 1 game, 50% of the bond is retained. If a Free Agent misses 3 or more scheduled games, 100% of the bond will be retained.
- Your team will lose 50% of the bond if no one attends the entirety of the captain’s meeting.
- Registration fees will only be returned if notice of withdrawal is given 48 hrs prior to the start of a tournament or league. No refunds will be issued once a league has started.

Fair Play governs all of our Campus Rec programs and activities. Fair Play is a philosophy, an attitude, a practice, and ultimately a way of life promoting fairness, integrity, and respect in sport.
Fair Play Principles:
