Liz Fleming '77 Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention but like all mothers, sometimes necessity pushes us to do things that don't make absolutely everybody happy. That's been the case with the online production of the most recent issue of TrenT magazine. A bare-bones budget forced us to consider a less expensive means of publishing one of our three issues - and so we went online. Some of you loved it, some of you hated it, some of you didn't really know about it, and some were entirely ambivalent. To those of you who loved it, we say thanks! We'll continue to post coming issues on the web and hope that you'll continue to enjoy this format. To those of you who hated it, we say "Sorry". We wish we'd had the financial resources to publish three 'paper and ink' issues this year but the dollars simply weren't there. Our goal for next year is to ensure that we have the necessary resources to publish three regular issues on paper AND on the web. To those of you who didn't know about the online issue - do we have your email address? If not, please sign up on the online directory at www.trentu.ca/alumni. We've got lots of news for you! And for those who were entirely ambivalent, bask in your apathy. We still love you and look forward to the day when something stirs your Trent blood. We know you'll contact us then, and maybe even write us an article. In closing, let me say that the volunteers who work to put the TrenT Magazine together are a tireless, dedicated bunch whose only goal is to encourage the Trent community to share concerns, remember past glories and applaud current successes. Whether we do that on paper or on the web, the feelings and the intentions remain the same. We'll keep you posted, one way or another! |
