Applicants to the Sustainable Guyana Program should be applying to one of the following Trent Graduate Programs. Information on potential supervisors can be found on the Faculty page.
Materials Science
Materials Science is a broad multi-disciplinary area of science; its goal is the understanding, prediction, and application of the properties of matter. This requires the development of experimental and theoretical predictive tools applicable to size scales ranging from the molecular to the macroscopic levels.
The field lies at the intersection of physics and chemistry, and includes many sub-fields, including nanotechnology, electronic materials, surface science, biomaterials, and materials characterization.
The Materials Science Graduate Program leads to the degrees of Master of Science (MSc) in Materials Science and/ or PhD in Materials Science.
Environmental and Life Sciences (EnLS)
The Environmental & Life Sciences Graduate Program (EnLS) is an interdisciplinary program offering both masters and doctoral degrees. Fields of study of EnLS faculty include cell biology and genetics; ecology and conservation biology; ecosystem biogeochemistry; physical geography; stress physiology; and trace contaminant toxicology and chemistry.
Sustainability Studies M.A.
The Sustainability Studies program is designed to enable students to explore the sustainability of human societies and the natural environment and will provide them with the education and training that will prepare them to be intellectual and organizational leaders within academia, government, industry and the non-profit sector.
Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies M.A.
The Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies MA program offers a unique and exciting graduate school experience. With support from Trent's multi-disciplinary faculty, MA students initiate and undertake research projects that range across the humanities, social sciences and other interdisciplinary fields. Students explore a research subject that they define and structure under the guidance of their supervisor and supervisory committee, producing either a Major Research Paper or a MA Thesis. Students undertake research projects that range across the humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary fields.
Indigenous Studies Ph.D.
Grounded in the discipline of Indigenous Studies, the program was first in Canada and only the second in North America when it began in 1999. Although based at Trent University, the program involves faculty from other universities as well as qualified individuals from Aboriginal/Indigenous communities. The program was developed in close consultation with Indigenous community representatives, and is grounded in Indigenous knowledges.
Applied Modelling and Quantitative Methods
Applied Modelling and Quantitative Methods is an interdisciplinary program which leads towards an M.Sc. or M.A. degree in the application of techniques and theory of modelling in the natural sciences and social sciences. The program is designed to overcome some of the barriers to interdisciplinary collaboration by bringing together, at the graduate level, students who are actively applying modelling techniques in their thesis research in a broad range of disciplines.
Bioenvironmental Monitoring & Assessment Graduate Program
The Bioenvironmental Monitoring and Assessment Graduate Program is an interdisciplinary program leading to either a Masters (M.BEMA) or a Graduate Diploma (G.Dip) in the natural sciences. Both of the programs will provide students with a background in the theory and practice of biological monitoring and assessment within an environmental context, while the Masters program will also provide practical experience through a professional work placement with government, conservation authority, environmental consultant, and non-governmental agencies.
