Research in the Trent Biomaterials Research Program is focused on the utilization of vegetable oils (soybean, canola, flax, corn, jatropha, coconut, palm, etc.) for the synthesis of functional polymers (for use as intelligent coatings, biomedical delivery systems and other specialized polymers), lubricants, greases and waxes, nano-matrices for the delivery of bioactive compounds and fertilizers, and crystallized networks of lipids for use as healthy food materials and intelligent phase change materials.
Professor Narine also focusses on research related to the use of Indigenous Knowledges, in partnership with Indigenous Communities, to direct the development of modern scientific methods and processes for the production of functional foods, nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals and pharmaceuticals. This research is conducted within a vertically integrated approach which spawns sustainable business practices and commercialization in the Guyana Hinterland and Coastland.
