Enhancing resilience to wildfires in the wildland-urban interface
Upcoming funding opportunity
Anticipated to launch this summer, this will be a joint international collaborative research funding call focused on wildfires in the wildland-urban interface. The Enhancing Resilience to Wildfires in the Wildland-Urban Interface call, led by the Natural Environment Research Council-UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and partnered with NSERC, will hold a webinar on July 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET (NSERC) and July 9, 2026, at 12PM (ET) (UKRI).

SSHRC Insight Grants - Webinar sessions
SSHRC will be holding webinars regarding the Insight Grant competition via MS Teams.

NSERC Discovery Grants (2027): Q&A Sessions and Application Resources
Get your questions answered
The Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) is sharing an opportunity from NSERC to support faculty preparing applications to the Discovery Grants.
NSERC is offering a series of pre-recorded Notice of Intent (NOI) videos, along with live Q&A sessions, to guide applicants through the Research Portal and the Canadian Common CV (CCV).
ORI encourages all faculty who are planning to apply, or considering applying, to take advantage of these resources.
Prepare in Advance:
Participants are expected to review the pre-recorded NOI videos before attending a live Q&A session, as this material will not be repeated. Faculty are also encouraged to consult:

All sessions are hosted via MS Teams and will open 15 minutes before the start time.

Participants may submit questions in advance during the week prior to each session, or during the session using Slido. Due to the expected volume of participants, not all questions may be addressed live.
ORI encourages faculty to register early and submit questions in advance to make the most of these sessions.

Sustainable Agriculture Research Initiative Connection Grants (SARI-CG)
Funding open
The SARI-Connection Grants, valued at $50,000 for one year, will support events and outreach activities that mobilize individuals involved in promoting sustainable agriculture sectors and food systems in order to foster a transition to carbon neutrality in Canada.
Applications are due by August 4, 2026 (internal deadline July 20, 2026).

New funding released
Projects must address any of the following areas of quantum technologies, or a combination thereof:
quantum algorithms/encryption, including post-quantum cryptography
quantum communications
quantum computing
quantum materials
quantum sensing
Letters of Intent (mandatory) are due by July 27, 2026 (internal deadline July 20, 2026).
Full applications are due by October 5, 2026 (internal deadline September 21, 2026).

Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award
Mitacs is extending the deadline to apply for the Global Excellence Award until September 11, 2026
The Global Excellence Award is a competitive call providing an enhanced funding package to support the relocation and integration of postdoctoral fellows (PDFs) into Canadian research and innovation ecosystems.
Funding available (jointly funded by Mitacs and industry partners): $170,000 over the two years, with a minimum of $70,000/year allocated to PDF and up to $15,000/year available for relocation or research expenses.
All submissions received between May 2 and September 11, 2026, will be adjudicated following the September 11, 2026, closing date.

From Idea to Funded Project: Strategies for Building Fundable Research (with Dr. Raheleh Saryazdi) – Location Change!

This session focuses on practical strategies for moving a research project from an early, unfunded idea to a competitive, fundable proposal. Participants will learn how to refine research questions, align ideas with appropriate funding opportunities, and build a clear case for significance and impact. The discussion will also cover how projects often evolve over time from initial concepts to successful applications. The session is particularly relevant for early-career researchers, faculty developing new research directions, or anyone looking to strengthen their funding track record. Participants are encouraged to bring questions or examples from their own research projects for discussion.

Writing Winning Grant Proposals: Unwritten Rules and Best Practices (with Dr. Letitia Henville)
This session is for researchers interested in applying for SSHRC funding (Insight Grant (IG) or Insight Development Grant (IDG)). Dr. Letitia Henville, an editor and columnist for University Affairs, will share practical, evidence-based strategies for developing competitive proposals from her extensive experience, which includes the creation of a guide synthesizing insights from 49 IG and IDG peer reviewers from across all review committees.
Faculty at all career stages will learn the characteristics of a strong, feasible grant application and strategies to demonstrate the value and impact of their research to review committees. The session will cover evidence-based best practices for research grant proposals, with a significant portion devoted to audience questions. While the session will be recorded, we strongly encourage attending live to take advantage of the opportunity to ask Letitia questions directly.

Offers members of the Canadian defense and security expert community an opportunity to conduct a five-month research fellowship, from mid-February to mid-July 2027, as part of the NDC’s Research Division.

Reminder: SSHRC - Trans-Atlantic Platform: Preparing for Tomorrow funding
The Trans-Atlantic Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities has launched a joint funding opportunity, "Preparing for Tomorrow: Societies and Strategies in Times of Transition".
The call brings together research funding organizations from countries in South America, Africa, North America, and Europe, and will support international projects that contribute to our understanding of how societies envision, prepare for, and respond to uncertain futures.
Applicants in Canada can request up to $250,000 over two to three years.
The deadline to submit the required letter of intent is July 8, 2026, and the deadline to submit the full application is October 28, 2026.
