1. What is Examity?
Examity is a remote proctoring service. Trent University has contracted Examity to provide remote proctoring services for final exams of some web courses. As part of the onboarding process, Trent IT completes a cybersecurity review of 3rd party applications that are in use at the institution. Examity has completed this process, and we have determined that their security practices are in line with our standards.
Trent Online manages the service at Trent.
2. How does Examity work?
- Examity online proctors monitor students writing exams by remotely connecting to the student’s webcam and microphone on their computer.
- Examity requires a reliable internet connection (a required upload and download speed of 2Mbps, with 10Mbps preferred), a webcam and microphone, and a private place to write the exam. You can test your system here.
- Prior to the exam date (approx. two weeks prior), students receive instructions on how to create a profile and schedule their exam time through Blackboard (based on the exam's scheduled time in the Trent exam schedule).
- Students have a 24-hour window around the date and time of their scheduled exam to book a timeslot to write the exam. For example, if their exam is set in the Trent exam schedule at 9am on April 20, they can book their exam sometime between 9am on April 20 and 9am on April 21st.
- Beginning Summer 2024, students will have to pay to use Examity. There will be no cost for the student to write in person.
3. How do I use Examity for my web course exam?
Not all web courses offer a remote proctor service for online exams. Check your syllabus to see if your course will have an online option. If you have further questions about the exam options for your course please contact the department of the course.
If your instructor will allow an option to write online for the course final exam, you will have the option to declare to write online. Trent Online sends a Declaration Form to all students in web courses with proctored exams around the same time the Exam Schedule is published. You must declare by the deadline outlined in order to be able to write online.
Students are responsible to pay the fee to use the remote proctoring service. There is no fee to write in person.
Steps to take exam online using Examity
- Declare online by the required deadline. Check your student email address for instructions from online@trentu.ca. Important instructions and deadlines outlined by Trent Online are sent as close as possible to the time the exam schedule is published.
- If you do not receive these instructions, it is because your course does not have an online option for the exam.
- Create your profile with Examity (accessed through Blackboard) and book your timeslot to write your exam. Wait for instructions from online@trentu.ca before you create your profile. You will receive these within 2 weeks of your exam.
- Students have a 24-hour window around the date and time of their scheduled exam to book a timeslot to write the exam. For example, if an exam is at 9am on April 20, you can book your exam sometime between 9am on April 20 and 9am on April 21st.
- Pay for the online exam proctoring service when you book your timeslot.
- Test your system: https://on.v5.examity.com/systemcheck
- At the time of your exam, log in and wait for the proctor to then begin your exam. It is recommended to log in 15 minutes prior to the start of the exam.
Accommodations
Typically, Examity can accommodate most requests, such as having more time. Students requiring a split exam must book with the Centre for Academic Testing.
Course Instructors have access to their students’ SAS accommodations and will work with Trent Online to ensure these accommodations are met.
4. How do I pay for Examity? How much will it cost?
- Estimated exam fees can range from $23 - $31 USD for a 2-3 hour exam. Prices are subject to change.
- There are additional fees for late bookings (within 24 hrs of the exam) and to re-book an exam that was missed.
- You pay for your exam at the time of booking your exam timeslot. Examity accepts all major debit and credit cards.
