"Professional conduct is demonstrated through the consistent provision of safe, ethical care reflective of the competence level of a nursing student". (Trent/Fleming School of Nursing, Student Handbook, 2016).
Nursing students must maintain professional conduct in their time during the program, but also continue those standards as a nurse.
College of Nurses of Ontario: Professional Standards-
- Accountability: Nurses must take responsibility for their actions.
- Continuing competence: Nurses are responsible for continuing their competence when they are in new health environments.
- Ethics: Nurses must maintain ethically appropriate work.
- Knowledge: Nurses must continue their knowledge and education as they continue their career.
- Knowledge application: Nurses must take the knowledge that they have learned and apply it to their practice.
- Leadership: Nurses must take on the role of a leader in their work and understand that their actions influence others.
- Relationships: It is important for nurses to have respectful, and professional relationships with their colleagues, clients and patients.
