The generosity of United Way supporters at Trent University has really paid off this year as faculty, staff, students, and retirees raised an incredible $71,172, far surpassing their original goal of $64,000.
"Success in education, business and life, in general, is all about giving back – and United Way is all about community giving,” said Dave Wills, 2011 campaign chairman for United Way Peterborough & District. “On behalf of over 43,000 individuals in the Peterborough community that benefit from United Way, a heartfelt thanks goes out to Trent on this great accomplishment!"
Throughout the campaign, which was launched at the beginning of October, many exciting activities took place, including: the annual kick-off barbecue, weekly draws for a number of great prizes and a gift basket draw. The gift baskets were donated by various Trent departments and featured two tool baskets donated by the many contractors and consultants who complete work at Trent University.
This year, 184 Trent donors contributed to the campaign. The number of retirees who donated doubled from last year. “We’d like to thank those individuals for choosing to support the community through the Trent campaign,” said Joanne Sokolowski, United Way campaign coordinator at Trent University.
"We are very excited to share this fabulous news,” said Linda Smith, staff co-chair of the Campaign. Faculty co-chair Erica Nol said, “This year, the Trent community demonstrated so much enthusiasm and creativity in support of one of our most important community drives – the United Way. Thank you to all who contributed."
