Monday, February 7, 2011, Peterborough
Acclaimed author Charles Foran will present a free talk for the public about the life of hockey legend "Rocket Richard” on Tuesday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lady Eaton College lecture hall, at Trent University.
In anticipation of his forthcoming book on Maurice Richard, to be published by Penguin Canada in the "Extraordinary Canadians" series, Mr. Foran will address Mr. Richard's remarkable career with the Montreal Canadiens, his celebrity in Quebec, and how his life intersected with Quebec politics and society in the 1950s.
Charlie Foran has published nine books, including four novels. He is a contributing reviewer for The Globe and Mail and writes regularly for magazines and newspapers in Canada and elsewhere. He has created radio documentaries for CBC’s Ideas on subjects ranging from Hong Kong cinema to contemporary Indian writing. His biography, Mordecai: The Life & Times, was published in October, 2010 by Knopf Canada.
Born in Montreal the year Maurice Richard retired, Mr. Foran grew up with a certain fascination of the “Rocket Richard” legend, whose name was spoken constantly among members of his extended family.
