Students Join in Community Movement
to Reduce Energy Consumption
Friday, March 28, 2008, Peterborough
Several student groups from Trent University are playing an important role in support of Peterborough’s first Earth Hour 2008 event to be held on Saturday, March 29 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Leading the charge to encourage all the businesses on Lansdowne Street to turn off their sign lights from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. is student Katie Allen, Trent’s newly elected Environmental Issues Commissioner for the Trent Central Student Association.
In addition, several student organizations such as Sustainable Trent and the Climate Change Action Group will be providing information displays during the Earth Hour 2008 activities to educate attendees about making positive environmental choices.
Earth Hour 2008 is a free outdoor event to celebrate Earth Hour taking place on Saturday, March 29 at Peterborough City Hall. A full roster of activities are planned leading up to the moment when Councillor Dean Pappas will officially ‘flick the switch’ turning off the power to City Hall at 8:00 p.m. for one hour.
Across campus, students are being encouraged to turn off their lights for one hour and unplug any electronic devices along with the rest of the world.
