FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Psychology Professor Jocelyn Aubrey to Commence New Role July 1

Monday, April 16, 2007, Peterborough

Trent University is pleased to announce that Dr. Jocelyn Aubrey, a member of Trent’s Department of Psychology for over 15 years, has been appointed the first associate dean of arts and science (undergraduate studies).

The associate dean (undergraduate studies) is a new position that reports to the dean of arts and science and supports the dean in matters of academic policy and planning and in other matters as they relate to undergraduate programs and undergraduate students. Prof. Aubrey’s appointment is effective July 1, 2007.

"I am delighted to be selected to develop this new portfolio at Trent," said Prof. Aubrey. "I am looking forward to working with faculty, staff, students, and senior administration to build on Trent's reputation for excellence in undergraduate education."

Key elements of the new position include: chairing the Undergraduate Studies Committee; overseeing the production of the academic calendar; overseeing the Instructional Development Centre; chairing the Committee on Undergraduate Petitions; administering the Academic Dishonesty Policy; and administering the Teaching Support Fund.

The associate dean (undergraduate studies) will be a member of Faculty Board and Senate, with occasional responsibility for representing the Dean at these or other meetings.

Prof. Aubrey has been a member of the Department of Psychology at Trent since 1991. Her administrative experience includes serving as chair of the Department of Psychology from 1997-2003, as acting associate dean of science in 2004-05, and as acting associate dean of part-time studies and continuing education in 2005-06. Prof. Aubrey earned her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Alberta. Her current area of research is sleep and cognitive processing.

"Jocelyn has considerable administrative experience at Trent, including two terms as chair of the largest department in the University and two years of experience as acting associate dean," said Dr. Christine McKinnon, dean of arts and science. "She is also deeply committed to furthering Trent’s mission to provide an excellent undergraduate education in the liberal arts and science tradition. We are very pleased that she has accepted this position."

Prof. Aubrey will be building on the work of Dr. David Poole, associate dean of arts and science (teaching and learning), whose term will end in June. Trent University would like to acknowledge the work of Prof. Poole, who has served as associate dean since 2002, and who has demonstrated leadership in the area of teaching and learning support, including enhancing the profile of the Instructional Development Centre, introducing new teaching awards, and enabling technological approaches and innovations in Trent’s classrooms.

Members of the Selection Committee included: Professor Christine McKinnon (chair, dean of arts and science), Scott Dempsey (TCSA), Professor Carolyn Kapron (Biology), Steve Lanni (TCSA), Professor Alan Law (Sociology), Professor Jennifer Moore (Ancient History & Classics), Michael Reid (CUPE), and Professor Andrew Vreugdenhil (Chemistry).
