 Public Forum Explores How to Make Research Work for Local Community-Based ChangeFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 30 Event to feature Keynote Address by GPA EDC Tuesday, March 27, 2007, Peterborough The Trent Centre for Community-Based Education (TCCBE) will host “Doing Our Homework: A Forum about Making Research Work for Local Community-Based Change” on Friday, March 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Peterborough Public Library. By focussing on the environment, organizational development and evaluation, history and heritage, and diversity and advocacy, the forum will explore such questions as: How often do Peterborough County residents experience racism and what are the implications for our community? And how do past economic and settlement trends in the region inform our current sense of place and economic growth? “It’s a chance for student researchers, community hosts and academic supervisors to come together with other local researchers, policy makers, educators, interested citizens,” says Todd Barr, executive director for the TCCBE. “It’s about working together for better information-sharing, evidence gathering and decision-making about important issues in our community.” This first annual event is sponsored by the TCCBE and its Community-Based Education Committee – both of which have been brokering community-based research projects between students and faculty at Trent University and local organizations in Peterborough and County for over ten years. Andy Mitchell, the president and CEO of the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation, will be the keynote speaker at the event. Other highlights include a research “Show and Share” – informal roundtable discussions on important issues in Peterborough & County, and a Next Steps plenary and panel, which will explore the challenges and successes of making research work.
