FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Two-Day Conference to Feature Trent's Leading History Professors and
Graduates
Wednesday, March 21, 2007
The History Department of Trent University will host a special
conference entitled "Canada on Display" to celebrate its remarkable
legacy of historical scholarship from Friday, April 13 to Saturday,
April 14 at Catharine Parr Traill College.
All those presenting papers during the conference are alumni and
graduate students of Trent University. The conference will explore
several themes, with sessions on Approaches to Historical Research,
Issues in Public History, Canada in International Context, Biography and
History, and Law, Policy and History: Past and Present. Each session is
comprised of three to four presentations that collectively showcase the
exceptional contribution made to the study of Canadian history over the
years by Trent University professors and their former students.
"Canada on Display" will also pay tribute to three significant
teachers of Canadian history: Professor Elwood Jones, Professor Dale
Standen, and Professor John Jennings, who will have retired by 2008.
The conference ties together the academic concerns of these three
professors who were interested in questions relating to museums,
archives and the public display of history.
A full conference itinerary is available at the Canada On Display web site.
Conference registration is open to anyone and costs $50.00 for the full
weekend event, including all meals. To register, please contact Meaghan Beaton at meaghanbeaton@trentu.ca. Catharine Parr Traill College is located at 310 London Street, Peterborough, Ontario.
