Trent Registrar Honoured with Ontario University Registrars Association’s (OURA) Award of Achievement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Susan Salusbury presented with Award at annual OURA Conference on February 19

Monday, February 26, 2007, Peterborough

Susan Salusbury, Trent University’s registrar, was presented with the Ontario University Registrars Association’s (OURA) Award of Achievement at the organization’s annual conference held from February 19 to 21, 2007 in Niagara Falls.

The OURA Award of Achievement is given by the OURA Executive to an OURA member who has held membership in the organization for at least ten years and who has made significant contributions to the provincial and national registrarial associations. Those receiving the OURA Award of Achievement assume the title of “Member Emeritus”.

“It has been a very rewarding experience, volunteering in this way; in addition to networking with registrarial colleagues, my OURA experiences have enriched my home institutions as well as myself,” says Ms. Salusbury. “I am still somewhat overwhelmed by the acknowledgement of my efforts by my peers. That makes it very special!”

Ms. Salusbury was appointed registrar at Trent University in 2000. With the exception of two years spent in a private consulting firm specializing in Organization Development, she has worked within post secondary university administration since 1971, previously at York University in Toronto. Ms. Salusbury has been involved with OURA since the early 1990s in a variety of positions: chair of the Standing Committee on Records & Systems, secretary, member-at-large, Ontario representative to the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC), vice president, president and past president. Most recently, she cohosted the ARUCC June 2004 conference in Ottawa, and has served as chair of the Task Force to review the Ontario Universities Fair (OUF).

Formed in 1964, the OURA is an association of Ontario university registrars, including those involves in admissions, records, systems, recruitment, financial aid, and graduate studies. OURA strives to provide professional development opportunities for its members through sharing information about effective practices in the conduct of the multi-faceted registrarial enterprise. The Association also provides important leadership in a broad range of functions and activities that reflect the increasing complexity and challenges in providing support to higher education. OURA is an affiliate of the Council of Ontario Universities with strong ties to the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, the Ontario Universities' Council on Admissions, with sister associations in other provinces and with the Association of Registrars of Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC) at a national level.
