200 students who plan to begin their studies at Trent University this fall visited the Symons campus this past weekend for New Student Orientation (NSO). The session provided an opportunity for new students to visit campus for a day and attend a variety of presentations and information sessions designed to help new students and their families with their transition to university.

The students were welcomed by Dr. Jocelyn Aubrey, Associate Dean of Arts and Science (Undergraduate Studies), and attended presentations on student life, academic advising and course registration. Participants also visited a service fair highlighting all of Trent's student services and programs, took a tour of residence rooms, and attended a presentation on living on-campus, as well as resources available off-campus. Parents and families of the incoming students attended a presentation on how to support their student, presented by Nona Robinson, AVP Students.
The Bring It On! program aims to give students the tools and skills to adjust to their surroundings at Trent University guided by a team of volunteer staff comprising upper-year students and alumni who have each faced similar challenges as new students to the campus.
“This program is a great opportunity for first-year students to get more time on campus before September. Students leave the weekend ready for the fall and with a few new friends,” says Sako Khederlarian, Orientation Coordinator at Trent.
New students explored the campus through various activities such as rock climbing, canoeing on the Otonabee River, team building with the new low ropes course, met with faculty and fellow students, and stayed in a residence room for the night.
Registration is still open for the upcoming July 28 -29 and August 11-12 sessions. The cost of the program is $100, which includes accommodation, meals and all activities.
