Research
For the past four decades, different parts of the Nature Areas have been used in a diversity of ecological research studies have been conducted by faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students. These have included studies of Nature Area soils, amphibians, insects, fungi, birds, and plants and various aspects of stream and wetland ecology. There have also been several recreational and user surveys.
Teaching
University Courses
Students in the Biology, Environmental Science and Geography programs have used the Nature Areas in many course related projects.
Elementary Schools
Children from a number of regional schools have used the Nature Areas for one-day ecological trips, in association with Camp Kawartha.
Camp Kawartha Environment Centre
This centre was built in spring 2009 and is devoted to environmental education of school children of most ages. It will also be used for training of teacher candidates in Trent’s Education program.
