Streamflow Analysis and Assessment Software (ver. 2)
This software was developed at the Institute for Watershed Science, Trent University, in partnership with the Lands and Waters Branch and the Renewable Energy Program, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The intent of the software is to provide an effective means to analyse streamflow data with the goal of building greater understanding of flow regimes and their characteristics that can support informed decisions on sustainable use of water resources.
Ongoing development of the software will continue to increase its functionality as technical guidance is developed, including comparative assessments of natural and altered flow regimes.

Hydrometric Query Tool for Ontario (HqO)
The Hydrometric Query Tool for Ontario is a software tool developed at the Watershed Science Centre. This tool allows you to query hydrometric gauges throughout Ontario by spatial location, by physical attribute, and by historical hydrometric statistics. A graphic user interface with a central map display makes visualization of the data more intuitive. You can obtain tabular data and drainage divide data associated with a gauge by simply selecting a gauge's location on the map display or by means of a radial search tool and a distance measurement tool. Gauges can be queried using logical query expressions which filter the gauges based on their physical attributes. The construction of the attribute query is accomplished through an easy to use interface which guides you through the process. The filtered results of the attribute query are also displayed on the tool's map display. You have the option to export the results of both the spatial and attribute queries to a text file which can easily be opened within most spreadsheet or database applications.
Note: An image viewer has been included with this tool as a place holder of this potential functionality. However, currently only gauge 02HJ002 has images associated with it. In the future we hope to be able to collect an image library of gauges throughout Ontario.
Note: This application requires updates to the hydrometric metadata. It is therefore unavailable until further notice.
Environment Canada Hydrologic Software Packages
The following hydrologic software packages are available for free-of-charge download here. They are made available by Environment Canada through the Institute for Watershed Science.
The Environment Canada Software is offered "as-is" by the IWS. We do not provide extensive technical support for these software packages.
Consolidated Frequency Analysis (CFA)
This package was developed by the Surveys and Information Systems Branch, Environment Canada. The CFA is a hydrologic software package for the analysis and graphing of extreme data. The MS-DOS program performs both parametric and non-parametric analysis of extreme daily and instantaneous data from the HYDAT CD-ROM.
NOTE: The ZIP file below is password protected, the password for the CFA zip file is “cfa” (lowercase).
The CFA Application is available as a ZIP file, and the CFA User's Manual is available as a PDF file.
Low-Flow Frequency Analysis (LFA)
This package was developed by the Climate/Water Information Branch, Environment Canada. The LFA is a hydrologic software package for the analysis and graphing of the frequency of occurrence of selected low flows, based on streamflow records at one or more gauging sites. LFA uses exported streamflow data from the HYDAT CD-ROM to evaluate low flows for a variety of surface water studies (e.g., water supply, fish habitat management, network planning) using a Gumbel Type III distribution.
NOTE: The ZIP file below is password protected, the password for the CFA zip file is “lfa” (lowercase).
The LFA Application is available as a ZIP file, and the LFA User's Manual is available as a PDF file.
Streamflow Toolkit
This toolkit was developed by the Surveys and Information Systems Branch, Environment Canada. The Streamflow Toolkit is an MS-DOS hydrologic software package that performs analysis on daily, monthly and annual data exported from the HYDAT CD-ROM.
NOTE: The ZIP file below is password protected, the password for the CFA zip file is “strflow” (lowercase).
The Streamflow Toolkit Application as a ZIP file, and the Streamflow Toolkit User's Manual is available as a PDF file.
