Increasing Complexity
A variation on the climactic model, this pattern arranges points from the simplest to the most complex. Since you begin by establishing the points that are easiest to prove, this arrangement allows you to advance your argument relatively quickly and thereby establish a strong momentum early in the essay. In an essay on factors in the rise of lynching in the American South, for example, your simplest point would probably the pre-existence of racial hatred since it is obvious and pervasive. You could begin there and work through to more intricate problems such as the emergence of economic competition from former slaves.
