In today’s competitive work environment, employers are seeking university graduates with experience. That’s why at Trent, every student is GUARANTEED to have meaningful, purposeful, and recorded experiential learning experiences that will contribute to your success as you enter the workforce.
At Trent, students benefit from a truly hands-on education – in and outside the classroom, lab and lecture hall, our students put their knowledge and skills into practice, gaining the kind of career-boosting experience that gives you the advantage in any path you choose.
The best way to get experience is to go get experience. Here's how at Trent:
Work for credit: internships & co-op
Trent students in virtually every program can earn academic credit in a variety of hands-on learning settings throughout Ontario and beyond. Our internship programs offer students the chance to translate your academic knowledge into career-boosting experiences. Choose a competitive co-op stream in one of our eligible programs and you gain academic credit...and a pay cheque!
Business placement program
Housed within Trent’s prestigious School of Business, our business placement program is open to students in all programs. Gain a career advantage working within a variety of business sectors across the Greater Peterborough and Durham regions. Trent students have worked with Royal Bank, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Ontario Power Generation and Pepsico, just to name a few!
Make a difference
The Trent Community Research Centre provides impactful work experience for students in any academic program. You can make a difference leading a key project with a great community organization like the New Canadians Centre, Peterborough Police Service, YES Shelter for Youth and Families, Peterborough GreenUP, and more.
Learn alongside the experts
Here you can conduct hands-on research with leading professors and researchers starting as early as first year. Try your hand at dusting off medieval texts, assisting in an archaeological dig in Belize, or testing water samples at our Water Quality Centre – the research possibilities truly are endless at Trent.
Go International
Field placements, research projects, intensive language programs, and internships allow Trent students to incorporate international experiential learning into their degree programs. Do business in Hong Kong, support health care in Honduras, excavate ruins in Belize, teach in England, or study marine life in Taiwan – go global and scale up your competitive edge.
Get to work
Through Trent’s student job board, you can access jobs that fit your specific interests, schedules and career goals – right on campus. Grow your professional network and gain valuable experience...no commute required.

“In my internship with the Canadian Olympic Committee, I learned a lot about web analytics and user experience. I have seen what it takes to track and run a successful website, and to become a young professional contributing to an organization day-to-day. Without this experience, I would not have been able to land my new job in marketing at Sobey’s Canada.” -- Adam Burford, B.B.A. and Computing Studiies student
