Ms. deBruijn assumed responsibilities as Trent’s University Secretary in January 2013. The University Secretary is the University’s most senior advisor on governance-related and administrative matters, and provides leadership and expertise to foster good governance within Trent’s two governing bodies, the Senate and the Board of Governors. In this role, Ms. deBruijn also provides oversight for the Office of Human Rights, Equity, and Accessibility in support of its mission to advance diversity and inclusivity within the Trent community. 
Maryam Monsef '03Co-Founder, Red Pashmina CampaignMs. Monsef is an immigrant from Afghanistan and has lived in Peterborough for 18 years. In an effort to replicate the kindness she received from strangers when her family first arrived in Canada, she has become involved in a variety of projects, including the Red Pashmina Campaign which raises money for education, advocacy, relief, and literacy. In its five year existence, the Red Pashmina Campaign has raised over $120,000. 
Fiona Sampson '87Executive Director, "The Equality Effect"Dr. Sampson is the Executive Director of 'The Equality Effect', a non-profit organization that uses human rights law to transform the lives of women and girls. She has worked as counsel for the Ontario Human Rights Commission and as the Director of Litigation at the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF). Dr. Sampson has published numerous articles on women’s equality and disability rights, and received her Ph.D. in women’s equality law from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. 
Chet Singh '80Professor, Centennial CollegeGrowing up in the Caribbean during the tumultuous 1960s and ‘70s, Centennial College professor Chet Singh witnessed national liberation and decolonization struggles – social justice issues he would later draw attention to as a dub poet and social activist. He now teaches philosophy and politics, and was integral to the formation of the Global Citizenship course that all full-time students must take as part of Centennial’s Signature Learning Experience. Dr. Singh has received a number of teaching excellence awards, including the Association of Canadian Community College’s Silver Award. 
Gerard Kennedy '77Former Ontario Minister of Education; former Member of ParliamentGerard Kennedy became executive director of the Daily Bread Food Bank at age 26 in 1986 and held that position until 1996. He is a former MPP and MP and was Minister of education from 2003-06. He resigned as Minister of Education and as MPP to pursue leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada in 2006, ultimately losing to Stéphane Dion. He is formerly president of his own consulting firm, Enterprising for the Public Good. Currently Mr. Kennedy is CEO for Alpha Healthcare Group. |
