Independent Research
Honours thesis course opportunities are available to students in the final year of their program that are interested in completing research on a specific topic under the supervision of a faculty member. In addition to the independent research component, students attend a timetabled workshop in which a variety of research-oriented pedagogical topics can be addressed, such as research design, writing and communication. Mandatory components of an Honours thesis include formal oral presentations of the thesis research proposal in the Fall Term and research results in the Spring Term, along with a final written thesis (typically 50 pages long).
Before registering for an Honours thesis course, it will help to have taken some time to consider a possible project and supervisor, and have made initial contact with a prospective supervisor. Applications for Honours thesis courses are available by contacting the TSE office and should be submitted in the academic year before enrollment in the course.
