Sidekicks
Sidekicks is a social program oriented to first-or second-year students who want to make friends, attend events with peers and connect with upper-year students.
It is a great opportunity to kick-off the university experience in the company of senior students who know their way around the school and can therefore help new students integrate into the college's community and make the most out of their first-year or second-year university experience.
How does it work?
Students that sign up as a mentee, will be paired with a mentor based on their interests and needs.
Are they looking more for a study buddy? Someone to go to events with them? You will meet with your Sidekick partner as you arrange with them, and where, usually for an hour once a week!

Mentorship Program
Want to be paired with a mentor? Would you like to participate as a mentee?
Fill out the survey to be matched with a Sidekick! You will be paired based on common interests and likes, for example, music taste, movies/TV shows, and extracurriculars.
Once paired, mentor and mentee will set up how, when and where to meet, as well as the expectations of the program.
Sidekicks groups
For those who want to be a bit more social but are not ready for the 1:1 commitment, we have an alternative option!
Sign up to be a part of our email list for events! We will email upcoming events and descriptions to you along with the registration links!
Some of these events are specifically for the Sidekicks group, while others will be for larger-scale events!
Meet the program's Coordinators
Emily Johnston
Hello all! My name is Emily (she/they) and I am in my 4th year of a Joint Honours Bachelors degree in International Development Studies and Gender and Social Justice Studies.
I adore the Sidekicks program for many reasons – it allows for students who may be struggling to find new connections and build relationships that they may not have had the chance to without the program, and it allows for more students to experience Gzowski events!
Jordynn Rehel-Sutherland
Hi everyone! My name is Jordynn (she/her), and I am in my 3rd year of the Bachelor of Indigenous Education program. I am M’ikmaq from the East Coast of Quebec with British settler ancestry.
I love that this program is dedicated to what the students want and need. I also love the dedication that our Sidekicks have! I love seeing their desire to help first- and second-year students and how they relate their own experiences to students.
