COURSE DESCRIPTION This is an introductory course that focuses on the fundamental knowledge and skills required of a classroom teacher. Teachers will walk away from this course with the knowledge, skills and confidence relating to programming for students with exceptionalities. They will explore categories of exceptionality in Ontario and teaching strategies that can be used to reach every student. This course will explore IEP development, inclusion and will include the review of a variety of Ministry of Education documents. Special Education Part 1 will be of interest to every teacher; not just those who teach in special education classes. |

COURSE DESCRIPTION The Special Education Part 2 course will provide you with in depth information, ideas, strategies and interventions to develop special education programs based upon appropriate assessment of students identified as exceptional. You will take a closer look at current Ministry policies, resources and initiatives. Various discussions and tasks will allow you to share best practices and other relevant ideas in a collegial and professional forum. |

COURSE DESCRIPTION Special Education Specialist extends the knowledge and skills of Part 2 with a focus on application and leadership skills in the area of special education at the school, board and ministry levels. Teachers will complete the Ministry of Education's Student Profile template and build on that profile information throughout the course. Course work reflects current legislation and involves using innovative approaches and programs. Teachers will gain insight as to the job skills required to work in the area of Special Education and learn about numerous resources that can be used in the classroom to support students.
