Intermediate English

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Intermediate English ABQ gives teachers the qualifications to teach in the Intermediate Division (grades 7 to 10). This qualification will give you a teachable subject in English.

The course provides teachers with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the foundations of English instruction and literacy practices at the Intermediate level. With a focus on young adolescents’ reading and writing processes, the course explores literacy as an active construction of knowledge and the conventions associated with that. Participants will develop an appreciation of the importance of literacy in students’ lives as active social citizens and will further develop their ability to program for all students.

PREREQUISITES

• OCT Member in Good Standing or OCT applicant if new Ontario BEd graduate (Read more)
   
• Your teacher education program coursework and practicum must be successfully completed before registration
   
• University undergraduate degree (in addition to BEd or teacher education program degree)
   
• 2 full year or 4 half year university courses in English (ENG code with a minimum "C" grade or higher for each course - BEd courses cannot be included)
