In this 4-week session students will practice diverse reading techniques on a variety of texts, then logically and purposefully organize ideas from the texts into speaking points, and present those ideas in a small group setting.

This is a 4-week comprehensive workshop series designed to help university students develop their university-level reading, critical thinking, and speaking skills with the goal of applying these skills in their academic courses and future vocations. Students will practice diverse reading techniques on a variety of texts, then logically and purposefully organize ideas from the texts into speaking points, and present those ideas in a small group setting.
By the end of four weeks, students will be comfortable and confident with the following skills:
- Reading skills
- Engaging with different types of texts presented in various formats.
- Practicing different reading techniques
- Critical thinking skills
- Identifying key features in a text
- Analyzing and evaluating key features of texts
- Purposefully and logically organize ideas to prepare as speaking points (perhaps using notes)
- Speaking skills
- Presenting ideas in small groups
- Articulate ideas clearly with relative ease
- Responding to and discussing questions and comments about readings
