What's New at Bata Library this Fall!

Welcome to all new and returning Trent University students! The Library is pleased to be your place for both individual and collaborative study, inquiry and research. Here is a brief summary of some of the services the library provides:

  • Our Librarians are available to provide research assistance, tours, citation help and general information. We invite you to drop by the library or visit our webpage for more information.
  • There are several online help guides and tutorials available to students on how to use the library catalogue, finding articles, etc.
  • The Bata Library has 6 Group Study Rooms available for group meetings or projects. A group of 2 or more can book a group study room through the online room booking system

Here are a few things that are new this fall in Bata Library!

1) Graduate Study Reading Room: We are pleased to announce that BL 314 is now a Graduate Study Reading Room. This new space will provide Graduate Students with dedicated quiet space on campus as they prepare for defences, and the writing of their theses or dissertations. There will no longer be a classroom on the 3rd floor of the library - which will improve the quiet study environment  for all students.

2) New TOPCAT design: This summer some updates were made to the look and feel of TOPCAT (library catalogue) and some minor changes were added. We hope you enjoy the fresh new design and updates to our library catalogue. Please email for any questions.

3) Expansion of the Archives: We have done some renovations to our archives over the summer and we have now gained a sizable amount of storage space for archival material and new office space for archive staff.

4) Library Fine Rates: The Library did a review of its overdue and lost fine rates and have increased many of these fines as of September 1, 2014. The new daily overdue fine rate is now $1.00 per day. Be sure to return your library books on time to avoid unnecessary fines. For complete details on the changes to our Fine rates click here.

5) Library Display Case: We have made changes to our Library Display Case booking procedures. The display case in the foyer just outside the main library doors can now be booked by Trent students, staff and faculty using the online room booking system. A new $20 user fee has been implemented to use the display case for a week. Book early in the year to reserve your date.

6) Updated Learning Zones: We are pleased to announce updated to our Learning Zones in the Library and have simplifies the zones- each floor of the library will have its own colour (with some exceptions). 1st floor is Yellow; 2nd floor is Green, 3rd floor is Red (Silent Floor), 4th floor is Yellow. Snack Food is permitted in all areas of the library with the exception of the 3rd floor and the maps area of the 4th floor. More information on our learning zones will be rolled out this fall.

7) Tim Hortons Expanded Service Hours: Open until 8:00 pm! The Library welcomes Chartwells as Trent's new food service provider. Chartwells has implemented improved hours of service at the Tim Horton's outlet in Bata Library. Hours are:
