Deadline to Submit Financial Transfer Requests for March 2024 Reporting
As of Friday, May 3rd, all transactions with a date of March 31st, 2024, or earlier were posted to research accounts. We kindly ask that all account holders review eFin and if there are any corrections required, please submit a request to Research Finance as soon as possible.
The deadline to submit adjustments to researchfinance@trentu.ca is Friday, May 17th. No adjustments will be accepted after this date.
Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC) Info Sessions
The federal granting agencies are offering researchers information sessions to assist in navigating the new STRAC policy.
English sessions will be offered on May 9th from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm and May 28th, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. Researchers are encouraged to register for these sessions.

Research Security Webinar Series
Public Safety Canada’s Research Security Centre will be hosting a series of webinars on research security in four separate modules aimed to increase awareness and understanding of the broad scope of research security considerations for post-secondary institutions. Full details regarding the webinars are available in the attached document including dates and registration links.
Digital Research Alliance of Canada Researcher Council Accepting Applications/Nominations!
The Digital Research Alliance of Canada has announced that they will be accepting applications and nominations for researchers to sit on their Researcher Council. The term will commence October 1st 2024 and run for up to three years.
Applications and nominations are due by June 5th 2024.

Funding Opportunities
Large Research Grants on Education - Spencer Foundation
Notices of Intent (NOI) to apply are now being accepted by the Spencer Foundation. These grants support education research projects that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived, with budgets ranging from $125,000 to $500,000 USD for projects ranging from one to five years. This program is “field-initiated” in that proposal submissions are not in response to a specific request for a particular research topic, discipline, design, method, or location. The goal for this program is to support rigorous, intellectually ambitious, and technically sound research that is relevant to the most pressing questions and compelling opportunities in education.
NOIs are due to the Spencer Foundation by May 22, by 12:00 pm CT.
Full Proposals are due by June 18, by 12:00pm CT.

Climate Change and Infrastructure Expertise Tender is Now Open
National Individual Standing Offers (SO) are required to solicit offerors for a list of subject-matter experts that may be contracted by Infrastructure Canada to provide expert technical and advisory services in fields associated with low-carbon and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Bidding closes on May 23, 2:00 pm EDT.

Trent University Knowledge Mobilization Grant– Applications are Open
Applications are now open for Trent University’s spring 2024 Knowledge Mobilization Grant.
This internal award supports active faculty participation at scholarly conferences and other dissemination venues, and the organization of small-scale knowledge mobilization activities.
The complete application is due by May 27. The maximum award is $5,000 for a period of 12 months.

SSHRC Offering Connection Grants Webinar – May 28th
SSHRC will be holding webinars for applicants and research administrators to provide information and answer questions about Connection Grants.
The English session will be offered on May 28th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. The password to attend is CG_May24, event number 2340 636 0553. Join here.
Please also note that the August 1 deadline for Connection Grants has moved forward to June 20. This is a one-time change for the 2024-25 cycle. Going forward, the standard application deadlines will be in place.
Racial Equity Research Grants - Spencer Foundation
Notices of Intent (NOI) to apply are now being accepted by the Spencer Foundation. These grants support education research projects that will contribute to understanding and ameliorating racial inequality in education. Grants will fund projects ranging from one to five years with budgets up to $75,000 USD that aim to understand and disrupt the reproduction and deepening of inequality in education, and which seek to (re)imagine and make new forms of equitable education.
NOIs are due to the Spencer Foundation by May 29, by 12:00 pm CT.
Full proposals are due by June 27, by 12:00 pm CT.

NFRF Sustainable Development of the Arctic funding opportunity
Canada is joining NordForsk’s international research initiative on the Sustainable Development of the Arctic with research funding organizations from Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the United States. Through interdisciplinary research projects that include Indigenous perspectives, this initiative will leverage expertise across Arctic countries to explore approaches to sustainable development in the Arctic, considering aspects such as security, natural resources, and societal changes.
Researchers interested in applying must register by May 30th. Pre-proposals are due by June 4th.

National Science Foundation (NSF) Global Centres call for proposals: Bioeconomy
NSERC and SSHRC are partnering with the US NSF-led Global Centres Initiative focused on bioeconomy. The program supports international, interdisciplinary collaborative research centres to foster cutting-edge, interdisciplinary, and use-inspired research in the bioeconomy.
Applications are due by June 11, 2024, 8:00 pm EST.

Letters of Intent are now being accepted by NSERC for the Discovery Horizons program. This program supports Discovery research projects that aim to answer natural sciences and engineering (NSE) research questions that are best addressed through interdisciplinary approaches and advance NSE disciplines through new ways of thinking about research questions, approaches, and methods. Individuals cannot hold both a Discovery Grant and Discovery Horizons grant.
Letters of Intent are due by June 14.
Full applications are due by October 18.

NSERC Discovery Grants program
NSERC is now accepting Notices of Intent (NOI) for the Discovery Grant 2025 competition. This program supports ongoing programs of research with long-term goals rather than a single short-term project or collection of projects.
NOIs are due by August 1, 8:00 p.m. (ET).
Full applications are due by November 1st.
